Senior officials from Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) member countries are in the Republic of Korea this week for the 2025 Korea-Pacific Islands Inter-Sessional Meeting.

This meeting provides an opportunity to review the achievements of the last Leaders summit held in 2023 and to prepare for the 6th Korea – Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting later this year.

The Foreign Ministerial meeting between the Republic of Korea and Pacific Island Countries was established in 2011 as a dialogue mechanism.

At the last Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in 2022, Ministers agreed to a biennial dialogue, expanding the scope of Korea – Pacific Islands dialogue mechanisms to include the full Forum membership, and to hold the first Summit at the Leaders level in 2023.
The inaugural Korea – Pacific Islands Summit in May 2023 marked a historic elevation of the partnership, strengthening the engagement and cooperation on areas of mutual interest.

In addition to engaging in policy dialogue with the Forum, Republic of Korea provides development cooperation through the various projects at the bilateral, multi-country and regional levels.

The 2025 Korea-Pacific Islands Inter-Sessional Meeting provides an opportunity to sustain the momentum of dialogue ahead of the next Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Republic of Korea has been a Dialogue Partner of the PIF since 1995.
