Announcment by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Baron Waqa on the appointment of Mr Viliama Bovoro as Director of the Pacific Fusion Centre.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Viliame Bovoro as the new Director of the Pacific Fusion Centre.

Mr Bovoro brings over 20 years’ experience in Pacific diplomacy, leadership and regional security policy to the role, and is well known across the region. Mr Bovoro was appointed the Assistant Director of the Centre in 2023 and has been the Acting Director since December 2024. Prior to these appoinSG tments he was a senior advisor and regional security advisor here at the Forum Secretariat. 

The Pacific Fusion Centre is embedded within the Pacific regional security architecture and is based in Vanuatu. The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Forum Officials Committee (FOC) endorsed the Charter that established the Pacific Fusion Centre on 23 July 2021. 

In accordance with the Pacific Fusion Centre’s Charter, Mr Bovoro was appointed following a competitive process involving a selection committee of senior officials. 

I am certain that Viliame will continue to support the Centre’s efforts to strengthen analysis, security assessments, and information sharing, to better inform responses to regional security priorities identified in the Boe Declaration. 

I wish Viliame and the team all the best in taking the Centre forward and look forward to the Centre’s ongoing support for the achievement of our shared objectives under the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
