Fiji joined several countries in the Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand, in submitting policy initiatives for the 2016 public call for submissions under the Framework for Pacific Regionalism.

Pacific Island Forum secretary general and Framework for Pacific Regionalism chairperson, Dame Meg Taylor says it was pleasing to note the positive response from the various individuals, civil society and private sectors from around the Pacific which showed the willingness of the stakeholders to address the big issues and interests that affect the region.

The submissions received had covered a range of policy areas including energy, education, labour mobility, ocean, tourism and health, with the highest volume of submissions centred on issues relating to climate change and West Papua.

According to Ms Taylor, 47 regional policy initiatives were received by April 10, the closing date of the 2016 public call for submissions under the Framework for Pacific Regionalism.
