FSMs Mori meets Forum SG, Dame Taylor

PALIKIR, FSM — Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) President Manny Mori last week met with Dame Meg Taylor, Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Palikir, Pohnpei.

Mori welcomed Taylor to the FSM and thanked her for taking the time to travel to the northern part of the Pacific.

Last year in Palau the Forum leaders endorsed the appointment of Dame Taylor as the new secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for a three-year term.

Dame Taylor is the first woman to be selected to hold the office of secretary general.

This was her first visit to the FSM since assuming her post, and she was accompanied by Desna Solofa, director, political governance and security programs.

During the meeting, the Forum SG thanked the president for taking the time to see her. She briefly shared with the president her vision and priorities during her first term, especially on issues related to the new Framework for Pacific Regionalism.

She also indicated the important roles of the Council of Regional Organizations in the Pacific and the development partners in the region and discussed how to strengthen the relations among members and the development partners.

Also duscussed was the Special Subcommittee on Regionalism, for which member states have been invited by the Forum Secretariat to submit potential candidates that can assist the Forum Secretariat in implementing the Framework for Pacific Regionalism. They also discussed areas of coordination with respect to the issues of climate change and fisheries in preparation for upcoming meetings this year.
