The budget for ministerial and parliamentarians' salaries will be announced soon by the newly-appointed Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the budget would be for members of Parliament and those who sat in Parliament.

And as the new Finance Minister, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said his role presented a new challenge.

"It presents a new challenge but as you know since the past four, five years, we have been working as a team so a lot of the work is familiar to us.

"The platform has been set by the former Minister for Finance, who is the Prime Minister, where he said the fundamentals were in place and we just had to carry it forward."

He said the ministry needed a little bit of finetuning and portions of the FijiFirst manifesto would be included in the ministry's policies.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat congratulated the government and people of Fiji for the successful conduct and results of the general election.

Forum secretary-general Tuiloma Neroni Slade said the election marked a critical turning point for Fiji's return to democracy.

Mr Slade congratulated the Prime Minister on his election and appointment.

"The people of Fiji must be commended for their full participation in this historic election of leaders and representatives, culminating in results that reflect the will and mandate of the Fijian people."
